Sheikh Abdulḥamīd Az-Zu'kari hafidahullāh wrote:
Among them (i.e. innovated principles) is the rejection of the report of a trustworthy person and casting doubt upon it.
This principle was promoted and spread by Abul Ḥasan Al-Miṣrī, who claimed that he does not accept criticism (of an individual) unless he personally investigates it. The scholars have refuted this invalid principle.
Allāh the Most High says:
{ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِن جَاۤءَكُمۡ فَاسِقُۢ بِنَبَإࣲ فَتَبَیَّنُوۤا۟}
"O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, verify it…" [Al-Ḥujurāt: 6]—and in another recitation: {فتثبتوا} “then ascertain.”(1)
Thus, the report of a trustworthy person is accepted, while the report of a sinner whose truthfulness or falsehood is not known must be verified. As for the report of a liar, it is rejected and not accepted.
ʿAlī ibn Ḥasan ibn ʿAbdil Ḥamīd followed this principle of constant verification, and so the matter continued, being implemented by many who compromise and lean toward the Manhaj of the later generations (Khalaf) while abandoning the Manhaj of the Salaf.
