Question: Is it true that the Houthis prevented Abdulaziz Al-Bura’ee from delivering the Eid sermon, despite the presence of of a coexistence pact between them?
Sheikh Hussein Al-Hateebi hafidahullah:
Yes, they did prevent him. However, this is not surprising, as they will eventually prevent everyone—even Muhammad Al-Imam will face the same fate one day. Abdulaziz Al-Bura’ee has been delivering sermons at this prayer site for over thirty years, yet this Eid, they barred him from speaking. What is truly surprising is not the ban itself, but rather their claim that they had informed him beforehand.
When people saw that a Houthi preacher was giving the sermon, many of them left. Meanwhile, Abdulaziz remained seated under the microphone, listening to the Houthi sermon with humility and submission. This is what is truly astonishing. Otherwise, it is clear that the Houthis will not spare anyone. We do not rejoice in their suffering, but the reality is that no one is exempt. Those spared today will be targeted tomorrow. Yet, some naïve individuals believe they will be left alone. The truth is, the Houthis will not spare anyone.
What is remarkable is how some people have defended the Houthis, insisting they are such and such—only to later find themselves betrayed. As the saying goes, "I was devoured the day the white bull was devoured." May Allāh grant us safety. No agreement, flattery, or appeasement will protect anyone. Even if one publicly aligns with the Houthis, they will never fully trust him unless he is from their own lineage. They trust no one. Even Muhammad Al-Jarmouzi, who openly insulted the Mother of the Believers, ’Ā'ishah, was imprisoned by them. They have also executed some of their own high-ranking members when they suspected their loyalty. Moreover, they imprisoned Mustafa Al-Mawmari, despite his notoriety for immorality. This is a consistent pattern. The Houthis only trust those who fully adhere to their beliefs, ideology, and bloodline.
Anyone who believes they can live a safe life under their rule by appeasing or accommodating them is only deceiving themselves. No agreement or act of flattery will benefit them. When the Great Hall was bombed, Abdulaziz Al-Bura’ee condemned it in his Friday sermon, weeping over the tragedy and calling it a grave crime. Yet, his sympathy did not protect him. Even if one were to weep for Hussein Badr Ad-Deen himself, without being a Houthi, it would not make a difference—sooner or later, they would still be a target. Yet, some people remain blind to this reality.
During last year’s Hajj pilgrimage, the officials overseeing the Guests of the Ministry of Defense campaign issued an order for Sheikh Yahya ibn Ali Al-Hajoori to deliver lectures in our camp. He was scheduled to speak after Isha on the night of Tarwiyah (the eighth day of Dhul-Hijjah) and again on the eleventh day. Among those present on the same pilgrimage were Abdulaziz Al-Bura’ee, Uthmān As-Sālimi, the sons of Muhammad Al-Imam along with his wife, Surour Al-Wadi’iee Salih Maawiyah, and many other well-known figures from Fuyoosh and Ma'bar. Also, Abdullah Al-Mar'ee was present and many more.
Sheikh Yahya delivered his lecture in the large masjid within the camp, but these individuals walked out and refused to attend. However, when a Houthi preacher delivered a sermon, Abdulaziz Al-Bura’ee sat quietly beneath him. These same individuals, who had been seated in the front row during Sheikh Yahya's lecture, stood up, left the masjid, and retreated to their tents. The masjid was filled with pilgrims from Ahlus-Sunnah and common folk, yet their resentment was so deep-rooted that they chose to leave rather than listen to a sermon—even during Hajj. Sheikh Yahya spoke only about the pilgrimage, the significance of ’Arafah, the rites of Arafah. And on the eleventh he spoke about the Āyah:
