Sheikh ’Abdulhamīd Az-Zu'kari ḥafidhahullāh said:
“Here I want to say some words for the students to memorise and to convey to whomever they wish. The Sunnah is not all about Jarh wa ta'deel, rather Jarh wa ta'deel is part of the Sunnah and does not make up the entire Sunnah such that the student/someone only occupies himself with Jarh wa ta'deel while he is ignorant of monotheism, ignorant of Creed, wages war against the Sunnah and its people, and warns against the mashāyekh and the du’āt. This is due to his ignorance.
We do not deny that Jarh wa ta'deel is part of the Sunnah. But the Sunnah also includes teaching sound creed, teaching pure monotheism, teaching the description of prayer, Hajj, fasting, zakat, teaching faith and Islam. This is the Sunnah; the way of the Prophet ﷺ in words, deeds, and beliefs.
But some individuals, like Muhammad Al-Amūdi, speak ill of the Du'at of the Sunnah, claiming that he understood the Sunnah and knew the Sunnah [better]?! He began speaking about virtuous Sheikhs through whom Allāh preserved the religion and the Salafi Da'wah in this era. The likes of Sheikh Hussein Al-Hateebi; someone who overseas a center [of knowledge], has knowledge and Da'wah, Sheikh Ahmad ’Uthman, Sheikh Ad-Duba’i, Sheikh Abu Bilal Al-Hadhrami, all of them are virtuous Sheikhs and people of Da'wah. Then this juwaihil (little ignoramus) comes [chanting], “The Sunnah! The Sunnah!”
Jarh wa ta'deel is part of the Sunnah, and not the entire Sunnah. The Sunnah is teaching the correct doctrine, teaching the pure religion, teaching the Islam which Allah revealed to Muhammad ﷺ, and we disparage whoever opposes this religion wherever necessary, and we endorse whoever [is rightful of that] in support of Islam and the Muslims.
As for, “The Sunnah! I am more knowledgeable of the Sunnah and the Da'wah,” then he goes on to strike the people of the Sunnah, knowledge, the scholars, the Du'at, and the reformers. This one, may Allah bless you, is the example of Al-Amoodi; an ignorant, arrogant, inexperienced person. It is enough that he is self conceited.
The Prophet ﷺ says in the ḥadīth reported by Muslim:
((‏إِذَا قَالَ الرَّجُلُ هَلَكَ النَّاسُ فَهُوَ أَهْلَكُهُمْ)).
“When a person says that people are ruined he himself is the most ruined of them all.”
