BENEFIT 394: Charity organisations are an unnecessary barrier between donors and the poor

Presenter: May Allāh reward you, Your Excellency. Charity organisations, O Sheikh, receive Zakat in cash and then use it to purchase Zakat Al-Fitr before distributing it.
Sheikh Fawzān: Firstly, who authorised these organisations to do so? Do they have a fatwa from Dar Al-Ifta permitting this? Who granted them the authority to intervene in such matters? It is not permissible for them to interfere in this process. Muslims should be left to discharge their Zakat individually, through their own actions and direct giving, without interference from these organisations. Their intervention in this matter is a mistake.
Presenter: However, may Allāh reward you, Your Excellency, they claim that they have a fatwa from a member of the Council of Senior Scholars.
Sheikh Fawzan: Our response is that a fatwa may be right or wrong, while we have clear evidence on this matter.
