BENEFIT 393: Du'a business?!!

26 March 2025 • 1.6K views
Question: Is it permissible to take money in exchange for making du’ā, where a person is believed by his followers to be righteous? Sheikh Fawzān ḥafidhahullāh responded: This is not permissible, except in the case of ruqyah, as there is textual evidence allowing compensation for it. However, taking money for making du'a is not permissible. If you charge money for supplicating, your supplication will not be answered because your intention is focused on financial gain. __ Muḥammad ibn Bishrān As-Sabbāk Al-Jurjāni said: I said to Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, «يا أبا عبد الله، إنه ليشتد علي أن أقول : فلان كذاب ، وفلان ضعيف» "O Abū ’Abdillāh, I find it difficult to say, ‘So-and-so is a liar,’ or ‘So-and-so is weak.’" He replied, «إذا سكت أنت وسكت أنا ، فمتى يعرف الجاهل الصحيح من السقيم؟» "If you remain silent and I remain silent, then when will the ignorant come to know the authentic from the faulty?"
