Had the questioners been more transparent in presenting their inquiry—clearly explaining that they manage a charity organisation and travel from town to town collecting funds—the Sheikh might have given a different response. I mention this because when Sheikh Salīm visited Dar Al-Hadith in Dammaj from the 22nd to the 24th of Jumada Al-Thani, 1430 AH, he stated: «أما الجمعيات فمن وإن بواقعها وإن أسست على مبدأ التعاون فإن مسيرتها تؤول إلى التحزب. ما رأيت جمعية إلا وهي متحزبة وإن بدت في بدايتها بعيدة عن الحزبية أو أنها تحاول أن تتملص من الحزبية إلا أن أنياب الحزبية تنالها وتقبض عليها وتدخلها بين فكيها. فالجمعيات كلها متحزبة إلا من رحم الله وقليل ما هي... اهـ "As for charity organisations, regardless of their nature or their foundation upon the principle of cooperation, their trajectory inevitably leads to Hizbiyyah. I have not seen a charity organisation that is not Hizbi—though it may initially appear distant from Hizbiyyah or may attempt to dissociate itself from it, the fangs of Hizbiyyah eventually seize it, grip it, and draw it into its jaws.
