Commentary on the Fatwa of Sheikh Ghudayyān raḥimahullāh
This fatwa by ’Abdullāh ibn Ghudayyān raḥimahullāh is being used to justify the permissibility of establishing charity organisations. Let us take a closer look, as people, in their eagerness to find a fatwa that supports their views, may sometimes overlook its context. The term "charity organisation" can have multiple usages depending on the context or intention of the speaker.(1) It is possible that Sheikh Ghudayyān (raḥimahullāh) was referring to this type of setup ⤵️ https://t.me/madrasatuna/2754 If that is the case, then there is no issue with it whatsoever. This aligns with what scholars describe as: التعاون على البر والتقوى Cooperation in righteousness and piety. However, it's highly unlikely that Sheikh Ghudayyān is referring to this type of charity organisation ⤵️ https://t.me/madrasatuna/2758 I say this because such organisations engage in impermissible practices, including deducting a portion of donations to pay employee salaries and generate additional funds under the justification of {العاملين عليها}. In a fatwa co-signed by other scholars from Al-Lajnah Ad-Dā’imah, Sheikh Ghudayyān stated that those handling donations should act solely as agents, restricted to collecting and delivering funds to their rightful recipients, without exceeding this role. https://t.me/almanhajussalafi/1357 _ (1) Examples: https://t.me/almanhajussalafi/1378 https://t.me/almanhajussalafi/1380 https://t.me/almanhajussalafi/1387
