Sixth Reflection: Fear Allāh and Be with the Truthful

Evidences: Allāh, the Most High, says: "O you who believe, fear Allāh and be with the truthful." [Sūrah At-Tawbah: 119] The Prophet ﷺ said: "Indeed, truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise." [Agreed upon, narrated by Ibn Mas’ūd, may Allāh be pleased with him] "And he (ﷺ) commands us to perform prayer, to be truthful, to be chaste, and to maintain ties of kinship." [Agreed upon, narrated by Ibn ’Abbās in the story of Abū Sufyān with Heraclius; this is the wording of Al-Bukhāri] Lessons and Rulings: -> Allāh has commanded His believing servants to be truthful. -> Truthfulness is one of the finest qualities of the pious. -> Truthfulness leads to obedience and righteousness, and it is a means of entering Paradise. -> Upholding truthfulness is at the core of the message of the Prophets. Assessing Charity Organisations in Light of These Principles: -> It is unfortunate that many members of charity organisations have missed out on a significant share of these teachings. -> There is notable leniency, especially in the realm of advertising and promoting their organisations, as will be further clarified. -> They may even consider such practices to be justified by a greater good. -> "Hizbiyyah is built on three pillars: deception, greed, and manipulation," as stated by Imām Al-Wādi’ee (may Allāh have mercy on him) in Riḥlāt Da‘awiyyah of Sheikh Muqbil, authored by Abū Ramzi on page 112. And Allāh’s help is sought. Discussion: -> It is widely known that many charity organisations do not uphold truthfulness in many of their dealings. -> Sometimes, this manifests in inflating the number of beneficiaries they claim to support. -> Other times, it appears in how they distribute food and clothing—ensuring these actions are documented through images and media for the sake of publicity rather than genuine aid. -> Even in the budgeting of charitable projects, such as the construction of masājid and other initiatives, they often lack due diligence. And Allāh’s aid is sought.
