Question:

What is the condition of Sheikh Sulaymān Ar-Ruḥaili? Answer: [He is] from Ahlus-Sunnah wal Jamā’ah and from the scholars of Al-Madīnah. May Allāh Almighty keep him firm. We do not know him to have spoken ill of the Salafi centre of ḥadīth (Dammaj) and those affiliated to it, nor against our Sheikh, Al-’Allāmah Yaḥyā ibn ’Ali Al-Hajūri, even though many in that city (Al-Madīnah) became affected by the Fitnah of the Baramkees (’Arafāt and co.) and the Mar’iyyīn (’Abdurrahmān and ’Abdullāh Al-Mar’i) which you are aware of, such as ’Ubaid Al-Jābri, ’Abdullāh Al-Bukhāri, and Sheikh Rabī’, and those affiliated with them. And we see from him love of knowledge, Sunnah, and goodness. There is nothing wrong in benefitting from him, although we would love for him that he was granted success; may Allāh grant him success and guide him to abandoning Taṣwīr when conducting his lessons and lectures and the like, because the Ummah is in need of knowledge - not looking at the image of the speaker or his appearance, and Allāh is the One who is the Helper. The Fitnah of Taṣwīr is a Fitnah that has become widespread in many countries, and only those whom Allāh has spared are safe from it. So we invite everyone to repent to Allāh Almighty from this great Fitnah concerning which the Prophet ﷺ cursed the picture-maker.
