BENEFIT 342: A Rafidhi who invited others to Rafdh, yet they accepted his narrations?!
Adh-Dhahabi rahimahullah said:
"One may ask: How is it permissible to consider a deviant person trustworthy, when trustworthiness entails integrity and precision? How can someone who adheres to innovation be deemed just?
The response is that innovation is of two types:
The first is a minor innovation, such as moderate Shi'ism or Shi'ism without extremism or deviation. Many of the Tabi'un and their followers held such views while maintaining piety, righteousness, and honesty. If we were to reject the hadiths of such individuals, a considerable portion of the Prophetic traditions would be lost, which would be an evident harm.
The second is a major innovation, such as extreme Rafidism, excessive exaggeration, vilification of Abu Bakr and ’Umar (may Allāh be pleased with them), and calling others to these beliefs. This type of individual is neither relied upon nor honored.
Moreover, I cannot recall anyone from this category who was truthful or trustworthy; rather, lying is their hallmark, and taqiyyah (dissimulation) and hypocrisy are their garments. How, then, could the transmission of someone in such a state be accepted? Certainly not.
Among the early generations, an extremist Shi’ite was someone who criticised ’Uthmān, Zubayr, Ṭalḥa, Mu’āwiyah, and a group of those who fought against ’Ali (may Allāh be pleased with him) and went so far as to curse them. In our time, however, an extremist Shi’ite is someone who excommunicates these esteemed figures and also disavows Abu Bakr and ’Umar. Such a person is truly misguided and ruined." [Mīzān Al-I’tidāl]
