Sheikh Sulayman Ar-Ruhaili waffaqahullah says: A person does not truly believe in Qadr until he knows, is certain, and firmly believes that what has missed him was never meant to befall him, and what has befallen him was never meant to miss him. This faith, this knowledge, and this certainty form the foundation of tranquility in this world and are essential for the purification of the soul. Indeed, there is no peace for man in this world unless he understands this reality: that what missed him was never meant to come his way, and what came his way was never meant to miss him. That is because human suffering in this world stems from two primary causes: The first - regret over the past, and The second - fear over the future. As for regret over the past, whether due to a calamity, a misfortune, or a missed opportunity, a Muslim who truly understands that what missed him could never have come his way—regardless of the efforts he made or the collective efforts of others to bring it about—will find solace and will not grieve over what is lost. If the regret stems from a fault or a sin, he should wash away that fault with sincere repentance, genuine return to righteousness, and seeking forgiveness from his Lord, while being certain that what afflicted him was never meant to miss him. As for fear over the future, when a person truly believes that all matters are in the hands of the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful, the All-Wise, and the All-Knowing, and that what missed him was never meant to come his way, and what came his way was never meant to miss him, he will find peace and no longer fear. Instead, he will place his trust in Allah Almighty and seek His assistance in pursuing what benefits him. Furthermore, this profound belief serves as a cornerstone for the purification of the soul. This faith rectifies the flaws within the self. If a person truly believes that what has afflicted him was never meant to miss him, and what missed him was never meant to afflict him, he will not envy others, nor will envy find a place in his heart. This is because he knows that what befalls others was never meant for him, and what missed others was never meant to come his way. How, then, could he harbour envy? How could envy creep into his heart? Thus, whoever embraces this great and noble truth purifies his soul.
