As-San'ani, Ibn Al-Wazeer, and Ash-Shawkani Were Not Zaydees

Sheikh Abdulhameed Az-Zu'kari hafidahullah states: SubhanAllah, Al-‘Usaymi, may Allāh guide him, claimed that Ash-Shawkani was Zaydi, and similarly As-San’ani and Ibn Al-Wazir. Brothers, these scholars were not Zaydis. By Allāh, it is not permissible to attribute them to Zaydiyyah. These scholars strove against the Zaydiyyah like no others did. Would a Zaydi write 'As-Sail Al-Jarrar Al-Mutadaffiq ‘Ala Hada’iq Al-Azhar'? Don’t you know that 'Hada’iq Al-Azhar' is considered among them to be greater than Al-Bukhari? To them, it holds a status higher than Al-Bukhari does for us, and then comes this monumental work to utterly dismantle it. They were people of hadith. Ash-Shawkani was one of the leading imams of hadith, as were As-San’ani and Ibn Al-Wazir. All of them were from Ahlus Sunnah, who distanced themselves from the Zaydi madh-hab and clarified the creed of the Salaf, the creed of the people of hadith. They were not Zaydis. Zaydiyyah is a false sect! Ibn Al-Amir explicitly declared that he was on a path he thought unique to himself until he heard about the Mujaddid Imam Muhammad ibn Abd Al-Wahhab. He said: "I used to think the path was mine alone due to the darkness that enveloped the people until I heard the call of Imam Muhammad ibn Abd Al-Wahhab." He rejoiced at this news and said (poetry): "I greeted Najd and its people, even though my greetings from afar would be of no benefit." This is a remarkable poem which Ahlus Sunnah rejoiced. If he were Zaydi, he would not rejoice at Muhammad ibn Abd Al-Wahhab, may Allāh have mercy on him. The Zaydis harbour animosity toward the Wahhabis, to the extent that they mockingly call them “Wahhabi”... Likewise, Ibn Al-Wazir—had he been Zaydi—would not have abandoned the Zaydis. He even said: "I dwell among owls and crows, and their company is more fitting for me. For the chosen one [the Prophet ﷺ] and his companions fled before me, as did Ja’far to Abyssinia." This is evidence of the isolation he faced from his teachers, students, peers, and even relatives. Can one say he was Zaydi despite such accusations and alienation? Where is fairness? Where is justice, my brothers? Justice is rare, but it is essential. Ask about these figures from scholars like Imam Al-Fawzan, Imam Abdul Aziz Āl Al-Sheikh, or the esteemed Al-Allamah Al-Abbad. Ask the guided and pious scholars about these men; they will not say they were Zaydis. Such claims do not harm them, but injustice is impermissible. Yes, the sons of Imam Muhammad ibn Abd Al-Wahhab used to send their complex questions to Ash-Shawkani, seeking answers from him. Look at 'Al-Fat-h Ar-Rabbani', you will find correspondence where they sought his guidance on intricate matters. Despite being the sons of Imam Muhammad ibn Abdil Wahhab and surely having their own scholars, they turned to Ash-Shawkani due to his expertise in hadith and his renown as a scholar of Ahl Al-Athar, whose reputation had spread far and wide. As for attributing statements like “Ali, may Allah honour his face,” to them, perhaps they were merely seeking to avoid the harm of the Zaydis. Or when they said, “peace be upon him,” it was similar to how even Al-Bukhari said it. Would you then label Al-Bukhari as Zaydi or Shi’i? Such matters do not reach this level of severity.
