Many scholars excused him at the time based on the mere act of signing the document. However, this changed when he made his statement during the ’Eid sermon, where he openly confirmed his actions, claiming to have done so by choice and as an act of nearness to Allāh Almighty. This led even those who were initially aligned with him, including scholars from the Kingdom such as Sheikh ‘Ubayd Al-Jabiri and Sheikh Rabi‘, to speak against him.
